It is a very original and touching story that follows Dr. Marco Carrera, an Italian ophthalmologist born in Florence. A life story full of absences and pains left behind (or not!) while this man insists on existing just like a hummingbird insists on its flight – putting a colossal effort into the ‘complex operation’ of staying still. A body frozen in space, perhaps in time.

The chapter “That Call” struck me very much. It describes a fear that haunts us all: the massive awe of receiving a call in the middle of the night, informing about an accident, and the decease of a beloved one who is a part of who you are. A sudden event that will impact the rest of your life, and how we continue living through this eternal fear. A very evocative experience, I loved it.
