As a lover of the Classics I know this story as if it was my favorite soap opera. The Civil War gives birth to the mortal clash between Augustus and Antonio, and the final battle is followed by a sequence of suicides involving Antonio, and his consort the queen Cleopatra.

Reading Shakespeare’s view of this story was a great addition to my understanding. His Romans are more knights and lords than Latins, and his Cleopatra is much more emotional and incoherent than she probably was in real life.

As the creator of myths this book draws a picture considered as History for centuries and that’s the interesting about it. So forget about the real facts for now and enjoy this awesome play. Ave!
