Yes, we’re still in Italy — but these flowering fields say otherwise. A little outside of Milan, Tulipani Italiani feels Dutch spring on Lombardy dirt. The founder, previously an importer from a family of tulip growers from the Netherlands, relocated to Italy with a clear idea in mind: to create a field where visitors could wander among the flowers and pick their own tulips.
Although we usually associate tulips with Holland, thy started their journey in Central Asia, before being brought to Europe via the Ottoman Empire. In 17th-century Netherlands, they sparked Tulip Mania—history’s first financial bubble, driven by flower obsession.
As a designer, I’m captivated by their bold colors and simple shapes. They showcase nature’s own design language—simple, striking, and packed with symbolism.
