I watched the movie as a teenager but never had the chance to read the book. In fact, even discovering it is a nice story. I found this book in a phone cabin turned into a library in this cute village in Piemonte named Roccasparvera. I completed my first full reading in Italian with this book. It was great. ✨
QUO VADIS is a masterpiece of the XIX century. Differently from what I was expecting, it’s not a contemplative and hard-to-read story. Its historical and fictional lines are mixed to take us on a tour through the reign of Nero and the misadventures of its inhabitants.
As a counterpoint to the oppressive wealthy nobles, the novel focuses on the story of poor and enslaved people. They are drawn to this newborn cult of an Oriental bandit who was crucified.
