“To the Worm Who Gnawed the Cold Flesh of My Corpse I Dedicate These Posthumous Memoirs As a Nostalgic Remembrance”

The book opening credits are already a hit. Despite its long name this book is, in my opinion, the best romance ever written in Brazil. A dead man review his memoirs right after death with some Nihilism, Realism and incredibly funny digressions. The metaphor of our lives as ‘books getting new/better editions daily’ to be finally delivered to worms is a gem. You must read Machado de Assis.
